In support of the national government’s COVID-19 vaccination program, the city officials here are preparing themselves to be vaccinated against the deadly Coronavirus disease.
During the recent meeting called by Mayor Samuel Co with regional directors of national government agencies and 54 Chief Barangays, he revealed that he and the members of the local council have reached an agreement that they should undergo vaccination, as he strongly believes that the national vaccination program now rolled out by the national government to local government units, will help and protect people from being infected with the deadly virus.
“We have agreed with the council that when the vaccine arrives in the country, we will get vaccinated first, followed by city government employees, and all barangay captains. I believe the vaccine is a safe and effective and we are not afraid of it again, ”said Co.
Co said that after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested the vaccines as safe and effective, he is sure that the local chief executives would hurry and buy the vaccines.
The local chief executive added that the COVID-19 pandemic we are experiencing today, is the worst disease that has occurred in previous centuries in the history of the world because the economies of countries have collapsed.
“Almost all large and small stores have been closed and so many people have lost their jobs due to this deadly and contagious disease,” added Co.
With the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020, the city, similar to other LGUs; also took strict measures to prevent the virus from entering the city. Among the measures implemented by the city government is the establishment of the Pagadian City Emergency Operations Center (PCEOC).
It can be recalled that Malacañang said President Rodrigo Duterte is willing to go first in line for a COVID-19 vaccine once it is approved for domestic use by the country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in order to convince more Filipinos to get immunized. (NBE/GCC/PIA9 Zamboanga del Sur)
