Flood inundates two Zambo city villages

Floodwaters destroyed four houses and displaced 243 families in two   Zamboanga  City villages  following torrential rains spawned a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) on Monday, officials said.

Labuan Barangay Chairperson Ronald Maravilla said that three houses near the river bank and another one in Sitio Lawingan were swept by rampaging waters, although no casualty was reported.

Dr. Elmier Apolinario, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) chief, said the 243 affected families are from Barangay Talisayan that are now temporarily housed inside the village’s public schools.

Talisayan Barangay Chairperson Juanita Escobal said several houses were inundated after the river overflowed following the continuous downpour since dawn Monday.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said she has already ordered the CDRRMO to provide potable water to the flood victims, while the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) was instructed to distribute food supplies.

Salazar also tasked the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs) to continuously monitor the situation in their respective areas and take steps to mitigate the impact of the inclement weather
