AdZU, CHR to put up first human
rights education center in Zambo
The region’s first human rights education center will soon be set up at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU), which is seen to further promote and protect the rights especially those of the vulnerable sectors here. This is a local initiative of the AdZU and the Commission of Human Rights (CHR) in the city.
“Joining forces to champion human rights, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, through its Social Awareness and Community Service Involvement (SACSI) office, forged a partnership with the Commission on Human Rights Region IX on establishing the region’s first-ever Center for Human Rights Education,” an AdZU press release stated.
The education center will be furthering education on human rights “through human rights education and activities involving instruction, research, and community extension activities grounded on Ignatian formation and values,” the press release added.
This program will be run by SACSI and the AdZU College of Law’s Center for Legal Services.
This government-academe partnership was officially sealed after the signing of a memorandum of agreement last month with Father President Karel San Juan SJ and Asst to the President for Social Development John Mayo Enriquez from AdZU, and Regional Director Atty Judelyn Macapili and Promotion Division OIC Daniel Paculanang from the Commission on Human Rights for Region 9.
