ZamboSur provides P300-K
livelihood assistance to FRs
The provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur released recently a total of three hundred thousand pesos financial assistance to former rebels (FRs) in support to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 or National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).
The LGU has allocated a total of P300,000 assistance to the FRs so that they can use it for the livelihood of their affected families.
This is local government’s initiative aside from the financial assistance provided by the national government to the FRs. The provincial government’s allocation is for the livelihood assistance of P20,000 each to the 15 former rebels.
Recently, the 15 FRs received livelihood assistance facilitated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) at a simple ceremony held at the city’s Executive Function Hall, Capitol Compound.
Zamboanga del sur Governor Victor Yu is confident that the surrender of several FRs will completely eradicate the insurgency problem in the country.
“I am very happy that you have returned to the fold of the law. Your sincere surrender to the government has helped reduce the number of rebels on the mountain. President Duterte wants that before the end of his term of office by 2022, the insurgency problem will be completely eradicated so that we can fully achieve lasting peace and order and prosperity,” Yu said.
The governor hopes that after the FRS return to the fold of law, “they will be partners in the development of our government by supporting government programs and projects.”
The 33 year-old Jonar Penote said he is very grateful to the provincial government for paying close attention to the needs of FRs as they return to the fold of law.
Penote said that the cash assistance he received from the government will be used to build a sari-sari store to help his parents and siblings.
Penote added that he surrendered to the government on March 2020 and left the CPP-NPA because he could no longer endure the fatigue of roaming the mountains.
“I return to the fold of law because I personally observed that the CPP-NPA propaganda was not true. They only make commitments to deceive people and strengthen their group. I also feel great compassion for the poor people living on the mountain whom we asked for food,” Penote said. (RVC/GCC/PIA9-Zamboanga del Sur)
